The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 2 Division Nigerian Army (NA), Maj.-Gen. Obinna Onubogu, has promised the Oba of Benin, Omo N’oba N’edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II, the willingness of the Nigeria Army to sustain its cordial relationship with the good people of Edo State.
Lt.-Col. Polycard Okoye, 2 Division Acting Deputy Director,Army Public Relations,in a statement made available to newsmen on Friday, said the GOC gave the assurance during his courtesy visit to the Benin Monarch, in his Palace in Benin, Edo State, on Thursday.
The GOC appreciated the Royal Father, for the warm reception given to him, stating that the visit would engender better understanding between the Nigerian Army and its host community for improved operational activities and successes.
“The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, has asked me to convey his best wishes to you and the good people of Edo State”, the GOC said.
He also solicited the blessings of the Royal Father as he pilots the affairs of troops in 2 Division Area of Responsibility (AOR), particularly during the current security challenges in the area.
In his remarks,the King affirmed to having an age long relationship with the Nigerian Army and the entire Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN).
He said that the visit was significant and would further reassure him and his people of a better and safer Edo.
The monarch appreciated the GOC and pledged his full support and that of his kingdom, to the Division and the Nigerian Army in general, towards ensuring sustained cordial relationship in order to guarantee a safer and secure environment.
Oba Ewuare II further commended the COAS for his exceptional leadership drive which has yielded tremendous successes in the fight against insecurity and criminal elements in the society.
He pledged the kingdom’s constant prayers for Nigerian Army troops who make grave sacrifices to preserve the unity of Nigeria, while wishing all those who paid the supreme price in line of duty, a peaceful rest in God’s presence.
The event witnessed the presence of Traditional High Chiefs of the kingdom, some Commanders and Officers of 2 Division as well as members of the Royal Family. (NAN)
