… pledges loyalty to Atiku’s
presidential candidacy
The teeming members and leaders of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State, mainly represented by the Association of the Ekiti State PDP Local Government Party Chairmen, and The PDP Patriots, on Thursday disassociated themselves from the decision of the former Governor, Ayo Fayose to insist on a southern candidate as presidential flagbearer of the party even as Ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar has since emerged the presidential standard flagbearer of the party.
The PDP members and leaders in a a separate press releases made available to newsmen in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday said Fayose’s position in this respect remains entirely his own personal decision and does not represent the position as desire of the entire body of the party in Ekiti. They maintained that the PDP in Ekiti State wholeheartedly support Atiku as their party’s presidential flagbearer.
In a statement dated June 29, 2022 and made available to newsmen in Ado-Ekiti, the Chairman of Chairmen of the association of Local Government PDP Party Chairmen in the state, Hon. Kole Abiodun, said: “We hereby dissociate ourselves from the position of His Excellency Ayodele Fayose supporting the All Progressive Congress on the incoming Presidential Election as stated on his twitter handle.
On Atiku Abubakar agenda we stand. Thank you.”
In another public statement of same date, signed by the PDP Patriots, Ekiti chapter, the Patriots said:”We understand that every citizen has right to freedom of speech and association as both are inalienable.
We are not unaware of former Governor of Ekiti State, Mr Ayodele Fayose’s decision to declare where he belongs.
However the general public should take note that his opinion is his and his alone. It does not in anyway represent the position of Ekiti PDP.
We hereby distance our party PDP from such anti party position of the former governor and we urge our party members to remain calm and steadfast while we continue to observe the unfolding events.
While we observe, we want to make it abundantly clear that we will never be led astray again. This party will stand strong.
Nothing shall discourage us.”
