Five of the kidnappers terrorizing Ibarapa zone of Oyo State have been arrested on Monday in Igangan part of Ibarapa North local government.

The bandits were arrested through the efforts of the Seriki Fulani of Oyo State, Alhaji Saliu Kadir, with the help of a special task force of vigilante group he created in conjunction with policemen.

The suspects are presently detained at Ayete police station.

It was gathered that the suspected kidnappers had allegedly kidnapped a Fulani man, Dahiru Weeti last week Tuesday around 1:00am. “The victim was kept at Taiye and kehinde Adeowo (notorious criminals in the area) house in Igangan for 5-day.

A ransom of N5million was requested by the suspected kidnappers from the family of the victim. The phone number the suspects used in contacting the family of the victim was tracked, thus the hide-out of the suspects was known.

An agreement to the ransom was made, a location near Igangan High School was the supposed pick up place for the ransom by the suspects.

“Unknown to the suspect that was to receive the ransom, the men of the Vigilante Group were nearby. He was caught when he was about taking the ransom. He took the vigilante group and policemen to the house the victim was held. Taye Adeowo, Yuguda Jayun and Kazeem Sule were arrested but Kehinde Adeowo fled and he is still at large.

“The victim was rescued from the twins’ house and he’s alive. Other members of their squad were also arrested overnight and investigation is still on going as some of the suspects are still at large. Taye and Kehinde Adeowo have been linked to several cases of robberies, kidnappings, cattle rustling for a long time in this area. The community would be at peace with their arrest.

“Although one of the leaders of the squad is still at large but he would soon be arrested,” the source told our correspondent.
