The coordinator of Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA), Professor Jidado Tahiru on Friday while paying a courtesy visit to the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde revealed that the state is about to receive a sum of $6m grant to fund education in the state.
The BESDA coordinator who said this while leading a delegation from UBEC and SUBEB on a courtesy visit to the governor explained that the programme is “aimed at drastically reducing the rate of out of school children across the country, while noting that Oyo state is among 17 states who had benefitted from the programme.”
Tahiru equally disclosed that the state would get the first tranche of the fund in the sum of $3m any moment from now, and thus appealed to the state government to ensure that the over 300,000 out of school children in the state be reduced at the next academic session.
But in his reaction, the immediate former commissioner under Senator Abiola Ajimobi, Professor Adeniyi Olowofela has said the fund was the effort of the past government that is now yielding result.
According to him, the received $6M is for preliminary technical support while the actual fund is $616M to tackle the issue of ‘out of school ‘ children for the next five years.
He said: “Luckily, it is multidimensional and inter ministerial in nature. The funds are part of efforts of previous administration, Ajimobi led Goverment to be implemented by Engr. Seyi Makinde’s administration. Government truly is a continuum”, he said.
