SA Media to VC
The Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), has secured partnership with the Washington State University, USA, on teaching.
The collaboration, according to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sunday Abayomi Fasina, has been sealed to last for five years.
Prof. Fasina was represented by his Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC) Administration, Prof. Tajudeen Bolanle Opoola, at the signing of the Memoranda of Understanding (MoU), at the National Universities Commission (NUC)’s office, Abuja, on Tuesday, November, 28, 2023.
The VC disclosed that FUOYE is one of the six selected universities for the collaboration in Nigeria, adding that other universities that benefitted from the laudable development included the Obafemi Awolowo University lle-Ife, (OAU), Bells University Ota, Caleb University Lagos and and the University of Abuja (UNIBUJA).
While explaining the goals of FUOYE’s collaboration with the Washington State University to the University media team, Prof. Opoola said: “The goal is to build collaborations across relevant disciplines to have impact in three interrelated strands of activity which included, Broadening educational access and equipping the youth with necessary tools for strengthening their communities and achieving their own economic security; Enhancing food security through efforts to mitigate the effects of drought and food , and crop diseases and pests, by addressing social and policy factors that can improve access to a healthy food supply and Increasing health equity by addressing the social determinants of health and vulnerability to disease.”
Present at the occasion were the facilitators of the Collaborations, Prof Peter Okebukola, Chairman NUC Strategic Planning Committee, Ambassador J. Mayaiki, NUC Ag Executive Secretary, former US Ambassador to Nigeria, (Ret) Asif M. Chaudhry, Prof. Paul Whitney, who is the Associate Vice-President for International Programs, Washington State University, Prof. Ogunmodede, the Coordinator, Health Cluster {Nigeria), and Prof Olusola Adesope , a distinguished Professor of STEM , Washington State University.
Representatives of the six universities presented brief histories of their institutions to showcase their achievements and uniqueness to the admiration of the stakeholders at the occasion.
It was indeed an awesome outing for FUOYE as the event marked a significant and historic development in the life of the University, especially happening during the tenure of the incumbent VC, Prof. Fasina, who has always worked towards making the University a world class Centre of Excellence for teaching research and community development.
