The Nollywood actress Liz Anjorin found herself embroiled in a fake money transfer scandal after a video went viral on social media.
The video alleged that Anjorin had made a phoney transfer following a purchase she made in Idumota, Lagos Island. Anjorin claimed that she had followed the instructions given by the seller, Qudus, but had mistakenly missed some digits from the provided account details, rendering the transaction invalid.
On February 5th, Anjorin went shopping in disguise at Idumota, where she was recognized by Qudus. He confronted her about the invalid transfer made the previous year, and other market sellers and passersby recognized her and videoed the encounter, which was then posted online and went viral.
Anjorin called her husband, who made another transfer to settle the payment. Following this incident, Anjorin took to social media to give her side of the story and accused Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo of being the mastermind behind the drama and setting her up. She reportedly rained curses on Ojo and defended herself against the allegations.
A few hours later, Anjorin returned to the market and arrested Qudus and Goke, the POS vendor, alleging that they leaked her video to the public. She also claimed that she had been pregnant and lost the pregnancy during the saga. However, it was evident from a live video she did immediately after the incident that she was not pregnant and had not suffered any pregnancy loss.
The intervention of the Lagos Commissioner of Police was required to grant bail to Goke, the POS vendor. The incident caused a stir on social media, with fans taking sides and debating the authenticity of the claims made by both Anjorin and Ojo.
