Fulani herdsmen from various parts of Oyo State at the Ibarapa North Local Government area have resolved to support Governor Seyi Makinde led -government following earlier resolution to employ legal means to stop the State Anti Open Rearing and Grazing Regulation Bill 2019.
Alhaji Yakubu Bello of the Miyetti Allah spoke in a radio program anchored by the veteran broadcast journalist, Abiodun Adewole well known as Mr. Double A on Splash 105.5 FM, Ibadan. He said that the herdsmen would not for any reason sue the state government over the anti-open gazing bill passed into law.
He maintained that they have come to stay with the Oyo state government, follow peace and ensure good working relationship within the state.
“We are ready to support Makinde. We are not taking any legal action again, and herdsmen in Oyo state are ready to maintain peace within the state”, he said.
However, it could be recalled that the bill which was jointly sponsored by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin and his deputy, Hon. Abiodun Fadeyi, was criticised by the Fulani, led by the National Chairman of Gan Allah Fulani Development Association of Nigeria, Alhaji Sale Bayari, who claimed, “it is impossible in our country for any peasant small scale herdsman to go into ranching.”
Yakubu therefore urged the Oyo government to kindly support them with all needed training that will make this new method of closed grazing more effective so as to make their business increase in all spheres and to enhance economical growth in the state. “All that will be helpful to us will be communicated to the governor.” He added.
