Some disengaged staff members of the Ekiti State University (EKSU), have again defeated the institution’s management over the lingering industrial crisis between the staff members and the management.
The Akure division of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN), at its virtual Court session on Monday, dismissed the stay of Execution filed by the management of Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti.
The application for stale of execution was filed by EKSU management after the Court’s judgment on December 8, 2020 wherein the disengagement in December 5, 2019 of 32 Laboratory staff of the University were declared unlawful, invalid, null and void.
It would be recalled that in December, 2019, several hundreds of the institution’s staff members were disengaged for alleged misconduct and irregularities in appointment.
But the affected staff members kicked against the development, claiming that they were illegally disengaged. Thereafter, the school Management reviewed the exercise and reinstated some of those affected.
However, when it became clear that appealing to the Management would not yeild positive results for others affected, the aggrieved staff members opted for legal action against the Management.
After series of court sessions on the matter, Justice K. D. Damulak ruled in favour of the staff members declaring that their disengagement was null and void. The court also ordered immediate resinstatement of the affected staff members with monetary compensation.
But the school Management in response to the development, filed a stale of execution of the ruling to prevent the resumption of the affected staff members into the school.
