The governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi has given 80℅ benchmark target performance in forthcoming 2018 West African Examination Council, WAEC examination to ministry of education in state as an improvement on laudable score of 54.4℅ in the 2017 WAEC examination ratings.
The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Adeniyi Olowofela stated this on Wednesday during a stakeholders’ meeting with National Parents, Teachers Association of Nigeria, (NAPTAN), All Nigeria Confederation of Principals Public Secondary Schools (ANCOPPS) and other concerned officials at the state Ministry in Secretariat, Ibadan.
According to the Commissioner, the state governor’s policies on education is not political but aim at repositioning the education in the state coupled with N5.6billion earmarked to execute various educational projects in the state.
Olowofela added that three model schools that are under construction in three senatorial district in the state namely Oba Akinbiyi High school, Mokola in Oyo South Senatorial district, Islamic High School, Orita Bashorun in Our central and Baptist High School, Saki in Oyo North senatorial district, including the acquired one in Ogbomoso will be completed for commissioning in 15 days.
“Oyo is the intellectual capital of Nigeria as it is surrounded by higher institutions and best minds and one of our ways to sustain feats in education was the reason for the aforementioned policies and establishment of Universal Basic Education Trust Fund to make more funds available to run education in the state”, the commissioner said.
Corroborating him, the Senior Special Assistant to the governor on Education, Dr. Bisi Alabi said the state should be in a celebration mood because of laudable achievement in education so far.
According to her, there are ground breaking policies by the state government waiting for implementation waiting for implementation and if executed, they will place the state among the best in the world.
