Former Deputy Governor of Oyo State and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Hazeem Gbolarumi, has denied rumours circulating on social media suggesting that he plans to resign or defect from the party.
In a press statement issued by GAAG Media and signed by Hon. Taiwo Jimoh, Gbolarumi described the speculation—reportedly being spread by Adigun Ibadan and his allies in the All Progressives Congress (APC)—as “baseless, misleading, and politically motivated.”
The statement reads in part:
“We find it necessary to address the unfounded rumours circulating on social media, particularly those propagated by Adigun Ibadan and his associates from the APC, alleging that Alhaji Hazeem Gbolarumi is set to leave the PDP. These claims are not only baseless but also misleading, serving as a calculated attempt to undermine our party’s unity and strength. Such tactics are typical of those who fear the progress and solidarity that the PDP stands for under the unprecedented strides of Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration in the state.”
GAAG Media noted that Alhaji Gbolarumi has remained a loyal and consistent member of the PDP, demonstrating unwavering commitment to the party’s ideals and objectives even during difficult times.
“It is crucial for the public and our party members to recognize these allegations for what they are—a desperate ploy by the APC to create disarray within the PDP. Alhaji Hazeem Gbolarumi has never left the PDP and has no intention of doing so. His dedication to our party’s ideals and objectives has only grown stronger,” the statement added.
The release further called on those spreading the false reports to desist from such acts or face possible legal action.
“We call upon Adigun Ibadan and his associates to retract their misleading statements immediately. Failure to do so will leave us with no option but to consider legal action to protect the reputation of Alhaji Hazeem Gbolarumi and the PDP.”
Reaffirming his loyalty to the PDP and support for Governor Seyi Makinde, the statement concluded:
“Alhaji Hazeem Gbolarumi remains fully committed to the progress of the PDP in Oyo State, working alongside the Executive Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, and other esteemed leaders and stakeholders. Together, we will continue to focus on our shared goals and the betterment of our community, undeterred by unfounded rumours and divisive tactics.”
