The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the death of a notorious armed robbery suspect, Halifa Baba-Beru, following a violent confrontation with officers during an attempted rescue by his accomplices.
Baba-Beru, a resident of Gwammaja Quarters in Dala Local Government Area, was apprehended by officers from the Dala Division on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, around 1:00 p.m. However, chaos erupted when a group of his associates launched an attack on the patrol team in a bid to free him.

During the exchange of gunfire, two police officers—Corporal Abdullahi Ibrahim and Sergeant Yahaya Saidu—sustained serious injuries, while Baba-Beru also suffered gunshot wounds.
All injured parties were rushed to the Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital. The suspect was pronounced dead shortly after arrival, according to police sources speaking to security analyst Zagazola Makama.
Authorities have launched a full investigation into the incident and are actively pursuing the fleeing attackers.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to public safety and urged residents to assist with credible information that could lead to the arrest of criminal elements in the state.
