Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) have reacted to the recent murder of a Nigerian citizen in the streets of Italy. The name of the man is Alika Ogorchukwu, and he was reportedly killed in broad daylight in the streets of Civitanova Marche, Italy.
The man is a 39-year old Nigerian and he was beaten to death on Friday by a man named Ferlazzo over persistent alms begging. Ferlazzo was said to have chased Alika Ogorchukwu and initially attacked him with a crutch which knocked him out on the ground, before repeatedly punching him, and this led to his death.
The attacker is believed to be in police custody, after he was tracked down with street cameras, as he also allegedly stole the victims phone. Atiku Abubakar condemned this act in his post, as he said that the life of every Nigerian, at home and abroad, is precious and deserves to be protected.
He commended the Nigerian embassy in Italy for the steps the official’s have taken so far in collaborating with Italian authorities to ensure that justice is served.
