The Atiku Abubakar supporters in Oyo State have expressed their optimism to ensure the victory of their principal, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the forthcoming presidential election.
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday at NUJ state headquarters in Iyaganku, Ibadan, the former minister for Power and steel, Elder Wole Oyelese noted that PDP is the strongest and the most popular party in Oyo State and indeed Nigeria.
According to him, the purpose of the press conference is inform general public over the freedom walk scheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday, January 4, 2023.
He sought the support of the journalists and members of the public to support in making the former Vice President emerge the Nigerian president come February, 2023.
He said: “we are seeking your support as the fourth estate of the realm. As we all know, politics and the media are like Siamese twins. Politics cannot be effectively conducted without media exposure.
“We are having a big event tomorrow, Wednesday, January 4, 2023 which requires your support. Members of PDP in the state and beyond are embarking on a march in support of the presidential aspiration of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, our presidential candidate and by the grace of God the incoming president of Nigeria. The march which will have supporters from across the state assembling at the Total Garden area of Ibadan from Sam tomorrow morning with the procession marching to Mapo Hall where prominent members of our party will give speeches and justify to members of the public why they should vote for Atiku Abubakar on February 25, 2023, when the presidential election will take place.
“As you all know, PDP is the strongest and the most popular party in Oyo State and indeed Nigeria and we have no doubt that our party will sweep all the elective positions in the forthcoming 2023 general elections. Atiku Abubakar won in Oyo State in the 2019 presidential election polling 366,690 votes to defeat the All Progressive Congress (APC)’s candidate.
“President Muhammadu Buhari, who scored 365,229 votes and he will win it again next month with a wider margin.
“Since the return of democracy in 1999, Nigerians can now see the difference between the PDP government and the APC government. During the Obasanjo and Jonathan years when PDP was in power at the centre, the Nigerian economy was much better than what it is now Nigerians never had to suffer like this. Now that Nigerians have experienced the APC government and what they got was unimaginable suffering, the difference is clear. Our people are going to bed hungry every night and they still have to sleep with only one eye closed because of insecurity as bandits, terrorists and common criminals prowl the land in search of victims. Prices of goods and services have sky-rocketed and become unaffordable for majority of our people. The Buhari administration has piled up debt. The infrastructural deficit can be seen in the absence of the most basic amenities. Most of our people are unemployed. Young Nigerians have no choice but to dabble into cybercrime known as yahoo yahoo, while others are fleeing Nigeria in droves. We are virtually in a. hopeless situation. Another four years of APC will throw Nigeria into the Stone Age.
“But there is hope. Atiku Abubakar is will rescue Nigeria from bondage and suffering. He is tried, tested and the most experienced among the leading presidential candidates. He will hit the ground running from day one as president because Nigeria is experiencing a harrowing socio- economic situation and does not need an apprentice president. Atiku Abubakar is a detribalised pan-Nigerian, a bridge builder with longstanding friends and associates in every nook and cranny of Nigeria who is acceptable to all ethnic groups and religious bodies in Nigeria. He has the best ideas on how to rescue Nigeria from the years of ruin and damage caused by APC. Help us to spread the message that Atiku Abubakar is country’s only hope for a better Nigeria”.
Corroborating him, the former Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Alhaji Hazeem Gbolarumi maintained that PDP has launched her Presidential Campaign. Since, the commencement of the campaign in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State and many other states, noting that Oyo state Presidential Campaign is scheduled to hold later in the month.
The State Coordinator of Atiku Abubakar Presidential Campaign Organization added “loyal party members and who are committed to Atiku-Okowa 2023 Presidential project, the Leadership of the party in Oyo state decided to hold Freedom Walk which is scheduled for tomorrow Wednesday 4 January 2023 starting from Total Garden enroute Gate to Ojo to Beree and Mapo. It must be noted that planning and the execution is team efforts of Atiku-Okowa Presidential Campaign Committee Oyo State and numerous support groups.
“The theme of the walk is carefully chosen to reflect the current precarious economic, security and political mess that APC led Federal Government has plunged the country. The desire liberation is required joint efforts of all lovers of Nigeria, thus we should rise to flush APC out of Government. This will be legitimately done on 25 February 2023, however tomorrow outing is preamble to achieving our goal.
“The event will be be peaceful, security agencies have been duly informed to maintain law and order. The attendance is not limited to PDP members but all Nigerians that believe in advancement of this country. They should come out to demonstrate reject of APC administration. More reasons for Nigerians to vote Atiku-Okowa will be unveiled”, Gbolarumi said.
