From Taiwo Oluwadare, Ibadan
The former Chairman of Ibadan North East Local government, Hon. Olugbenga Adewusi popularly known as ‘Arole’ Obasanjo meaning the heir apparent to Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has stated that he left Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo state to Accord party because of PDP bad party leadership.
Speaking recently in an interview with Dorronews, Adewusi who is the candidate contesting for Ibadan North East/South East federal constituency under Accord party in Oyo state said PDP party leaders are not sincere to members, a reason he joined Accord Party that has better ideology.
He maintained that Obasanjo as his uncle and guardian partly responsible for his candidature in Accord party and consent of his factional group to join the party following a negotiation with Accord party leadership that they will give him the slot to contest under their platform.
He said that Obasanjo being instrumental to his candidature does not mean he is not a member of PDP but says his candidature is possible because Obasanjo is a father of the nation while Senator Rasheed Ladoja is a brother to him.
Adewusi emphasized that rancour between the duo of Obasanjo, the former President of Nigeria and Ladoja, the former governor of Oyo state is a thing of the past saying they are now friends and partners in progress.
Reacting to opinion in some quarters that Accord party is a one man party, Adewusi quipped “Accord is not a one man party rather, it has party leaders who control affairs of the party while among them is Senator Rashidi Ladoja”.
Speaking on why people are calling him heir apparent to Obasanjo, he said “when Awolowo was alive, Chief Bola Ige called himself Arole Awolowo but Bola Ige was from Esa-Oke while Awolowo from Ijebu. But my own is different because it was Obasanjo that trained me and my uncle. Therefore, I can call myself the apparent heir of Obasanjo or his political son because he is my uncle and guardian”, Adewusi said.
