Bashir Kurfi, an elder and member of the Security Assurance Program for the community of Katsina has narrated how bandits have been tormenting some communities in the state.
In an interview with BBC News Hausa, Kurfi said he is an eyewitness to some of the atrocities committed by bandits. He said in the past whenever bandits attack a village, they do so with the sole purpose of stealing valuable properties and cattle however they now forcefully sleep with married women and young girls.
He said in some villages that are under the control of bandits, the bandits sometimes ask married men to give them their wives or daughters for one week. He said sometimes bandits forcefully sleep with women and young girls in the presence of their husbands and fathers. He also said the bandits seize farmlands and then force the owners to cultivate for them
He went on to lament that while the government dialogues with bandits, the victims have been neglected
