Bayelsa Police Hunt Suspected Internet Fraudster After Woman Found Dead in Hotel

Police in Bayelsa State have launched a manhunt for a suspected internet fraudster, popularly referred to as a “Yahoo boy,” following the death of a young woman in a hotel room in the Igbogene area of Yenagoa, the state capital.

The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday. According to a source who spoke to Punch Metro on condition of anonymity, the woman had checked into the hotel with the suspect, who fled shortly after their arrival.

Hotel staff later discovered the woman’s lifeless body and alerted the Igbogene Divisional Police Headquarters.

“The body of a young woman was found in a hotel room on Saturday, creating panic in the area,” the source said. “She had checked in with a suspected Yahoo boy, who disappeared soon after.”

Confirming the incident, Bayelsa State Police Public Relations Officer, Musa Muhammad, said an investigation is underway to identify and apprehend the suspect.

“We received the report on Saturday. While no arrest has been made yet, the command is making determined efforts to track down the suspect,” Muhammad stated.

He added that an autopsy would be conducted to ascertain the exact cause of death.
