Detectives in Benue State Police Command have begun investigation to get those behind the killing of a 24-year-old lady, Joy Onoh, who was a Mass Communication graduate before her death.
Miss Onoh’s corpse was discovered by the police on Wednesday, October 20, 2021, after she was murdered by unknown hoodlums in Makurdi, the state capital.
It was gathered that Onoh was awaiting her call-up letter from the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) when she was killed at North Bank area of Makurdi.
Before she met death, she reportedly received a call from someone to come to a particularly place at North Bank, a suburb of Makurdi, to supply clothes.
Mother of the deceased, Mrs. Grace Onoh, while speaking with journalists, said that her daughter, who was her first child, told her that she was going to North Bank to supply clothes to some people.
Mrs Onoh, who is also a widow with three children and native of Obollo Afor, Enugu State, and lives with her three children off Adikpo Street, behind NUJ secretariat, Makurdi, said she lost her husband about 12 years ago.
She told newsmen during a visit to her residence, that her daughter had been struggling to send herself to the university through the little business.
According to her, “Joy left home on Tuesday to deliver Turtle neck cloth to some persons at Federal Housing, North Bank. She left the house at about 4:50pm and did not return again. I made frantic efforts to call her phone but it was being cut off, telling me it was busy. Her sister, Cynthia, called and this time, it went through but she cried and asked her sister to send her bank details.
“I reported the matter to the police that night but they asked me to come back the next day. The next day, they told me to wait till after 24 hours, only to hear by 5pm that her body was found at Federal Low Cost area at North Bank.”
Confirming the story, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP, Catherine Anene, said that a case of a missing persons was reported to the police and a search was conducted.
The PPRO stated further that the corpse of the lady was discovered on October 20, at about 7am, in a bush at Federal Low Cost area.
According to Anene, “she (the deceased) was called to deliver goods at Federal Housing, North Bank, Makurdi, and we later discovered her corpse in a bush. She resided behind NUJ House. investigation is ongoing to ascertain the cause of her death.”
