The Governor of Oyo State, ‘Seyi Makinde, has expressed his confidence that the state and its people will emerge stronger in the aftermath of the January 16, 2024 explosion in Bodija, Ibadan.
He assured that the government is actively working towards finding long-term solutions to the challenges posed by the incident. This includes providing medical attention to the casualties, offering temporary accommodation to the victims, and addressing the security concerns surrounding the incident. The Governor also highlighted the humanitarian side, particularly with regards to the affected children who should be attending school.
Governor Makinde made these remarks during a visit from the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by its chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara. He expressed his gratitude for the visit and emphasized the importance of unity within the party. The Governor pledged his support for the party’s unity and affirmed his commitment to play a positive role in ensuring the PDP’s strength and cohesion. He also called on the BoT to serve as the party’s conscience and steer it in the right direction.
Senator Wabara commended Governor Makinde for his prompt response to the Bodija explosion and praised his engineering expertise in ordering a structural integrity test on the affected buildings. The BoT extended its condolences to the Governor, the government of Oyo State, and the families who lost loved ones in the incident, and called for a thorough investigation to prevent future occurrences. The BoT also commended Governor Makinde for delivering on his electoral promises through impressive infrastructural projects.
