A seeming substance like crude oil has been discovered in a well of a resident at Akala expressway, Elebu in Ibadan, Oyo State Capital.
According to the resident, Mrs. Elizabeth Ale while speaking with LiveTimesNG in a phone interview on Thursday morning, the substance was discovered on Saturday, October 23, 2021.
She was however confused if it’s oil spillage or crude oil but in her description, the substance is black and looked like engine oil which can suitably be described as crude oil.
Asked if there’s probabilities of ruptured petrol pipeline or underground petrol tank that damaged and its content infiltrated into the well, the woman noted that the only pipeline nearest to the area is at Orita- Merin and is quite far to the area.
Mrs. Elizabeth said since Saturday that the well water contamination has occurred, none of the members of her household could cook or use water for home use.
She is therefore crying for government’s quick intervention to be able to have access to pure and potable water.
Speaking with a Development Expert and President, Association of Waterwell Drilling rig owners and practitioners (AWDROP) Mr. Micheal Ale, he narrated that emergency response is necessary by the state government to first forestall any fire incidence by decontaminating the well and engage an expert to drill a new borehole for the residents involved.
According to him, government should set up emergency situational team to look into the situation, saying he is probably concerned about contamination of the groundwater.
But in the video obtained by LiveTimesNG, it could be seen how the contaminated water was drawn from the well and when ignited it, it caught fire.
