The Kano State government on Monday reportedly dethroned Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, The Vanguard reports.
The dethronement of the Emir followed the State Council executive meeting presided over by the Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
After the report of dethronement, security operatives on Monday reportedly stormed the palace of the Emir of Kano in Kano State in an attempt to remove him from the place.
Since coming on the throne, Sanusi, who rose to become Governor of Nigeria’s Central Bank as a professional, has always spoken out against harmful traditions and practices in the North, often times drawing the ire of elites in the region.
Lamido Sanusi isn’t the first emir of kano to be dethroned, history has repeated itself.
In 1963, the Emir of Kano Sir Muhammadu Sanusi II was also ovethrowed.
He was dethroned as a result of power struggle between him & Ahmadu Bello.
57 years later, The direct descendant of Emir Sanusi Mohammed Sanusi II has been dethroned by Ganduje.
