Adeola, the daughter of renowned Nollywood actress Jumoke George, has returned to Nigeria after spending four years in Mali, where she was reportedly trafficked.
The news was confirmed on Monday by Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the Chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM). In a brief statement, Dabiri-Erewa revealed that the commission had officially received Adeola, facilitating her return from Mali back to Nigeria.
“She was trafficked to Mali, but thankfully, she has now been brought back home,” Dabiri-Erewa stated. “We commend everyone involved in bringing her story to light and ensuring her safe return.”
The commission expressed appreciation to actress Bola Adebayo for first raising the alarm about Adeola’s situation and to actor Adeniyi Johnson for lending his voice to the campaign that brought attention to the plight of the young woman.
Details surrounding Adeola’s experience in Mali remain limited, but NIDCOM has promised to release further information as it becomes available. The agency also reiterated its commitment to fighting human trafficking and assisting Nigerians in distress abroad.
