…As South-West PDP Leaders Reaffirm Loyalty to Party, Reject Coalition
Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, has dismissed concerns over an emerging political coalition, asserting that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) remains a resilient and unshaken institution, especially in the South-West.
Governor Makinde made the remarks on Friday after a meeting of the South-West PDP Caucus held at the regional secretariat named in honour of late Hon. Soji Adagunodo. He emphasized that the PDP remains united and committed to strengthening itself from within, rather than fleeing at the slightest sign of challenge.
“The PDP in the South-West is united. We are not moved by talks of any coalition,” Makinde said. “Those in the so-called coalition are familiar faces — many were once in PDP or APC. What have they truly offered? Should we assume they’ve suddenly changed because they switched parties? We won’t abandon our house because of cracks in the roof; we’ll fix it and move forward.”
He reaffirmed that the PDP is well-equipped to deal with internal issues, stating that the party has its mechanisms for resolving disputes and rebuilding unity.
Earlier at the meeting, which included representatives from all six South-West states, the caucus issued a communique declaring full support for the PDP and its national leadership. Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, represented by his deputy, Prince Kola Adewusi; former Osun Governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola; and other prominent leaders were in attendance.
The communique reaffirmed the zone’s loyalty to the PDP and its commitment to party unity, stability, and success across all levels. It also pledged support for the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) and openness to alliances with like-minded Nigerians seeking to rescue the country from the grip of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The caucus praised Governors Makinde and Adeleke for their leadership in fostering peace and progress within the region’s PDP structure.
It further stated that the caucus is fully prepared for upcoming by-elections in Oyo and Ogun States and the Lagos State Local Government elections, expressing confidence in the PDP’s electoral prospects”.
The Federal Government was urged to immediately release withheld Local Government allocations due to Osun State, describing the act as unconstitutional and harmful to the welfare of citizens.
Strong concerns were raised over worsening insecurity and economic hardship under the APC administration.
Echoing Governor Makinde, the caucus stated that the 2027 general election would be a defining contest between Nigerians and the APC, with the PDP leading the charge for change.
The communique also called on Nigerians to remain hopeful and steadfast in their support for the PDP as the party works to deliver a better future.
Notable figures at the meeting included PDP Deputy National Chairman (South), Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja; former National Vice Chairman (South-West), Dr. Eddy Olafeso; Senator Monsurat Sunmonu; Dr. Saka Balogun; PDP South-West Zonal Chairman, Barr. Kamorudeen Ajisafe; and Oyo State PDP Secretary, Alhaji Wasiu Adeleke, among others.
