Ekiti State government on Tuesday announced that it has discharged the only case who was also the index case of coronavirus in the state after testing negative to the novel disease.
The patient, who has been receiving treatment since March 18 at the Ekiti State Infection Disease Control Centre in Oba Adejuyigbe General Hospital, Ado-Ekiti, was confirmed free from the deadly virus as his latest test came back negative.
Ekiti State Commissioner for Health, Dr Mojisola Yaya-Kolade, said the patient has been discharged after recovery.
Yaya-Kolade said, “He had tested negative. Everything is normal, we cannot keep him longer.
“What we told him is that when he gets home, he should still self-isolate and if he is going out, he should wear mask.”
She disclosed that the 41 contacts in isolation would be there for the prescribed 14 days, though all of them were stable without any symptoms.
Yaya-Kolade added that the female care-giver of the late American, who had been in isolation, “has done the test three times and she is negative”.
The commissioner therefore appealed to all Ekiti residents to adhere to hygienic lifestyle and obey the stay-at-home order of the state government.
