COVID-19: Oyo govt. takes sensitization campaign to Ibadan markets, streets

Ibadan, March 28, 2020(NAN) As part of efforts to stem the spread of corona virus (COVID-19), the Oyo State Government has taken its sensitisation campaign on COVID-19 preventive measures to markets and streets in Ibadan metropolis.

The News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) reports that the government task force and several other stakeholders in the state had on Saturday led the campaign to the major markets in Ibadan.

The markets visited are Bodija, Ojoo, Sango, Eleyele, Sabo, Dugbe, Aleshinloye, Challenge, Orita-Challenge, New Garage, Molete, Ogunpa, Ifeleye, Amunigun, Agbeni, Orita-Merin, Oje, Agodi-Gate, Gbagi and Iwo road.

Dr Wasiu Olatubosun, the State Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, said the essence of the campaign was to keep the people abreast of the pandemic ravaging the world and how it could be prevented.

The commissioner said that governments was giving all its best to ensure that the COVID-19 pandemic is curtailed in the state.

“We are doing this to sensitize the people about corona virus (COVID-19). What we expected them to do and what they are not expected to do.

” We try as much as possible to prepare their minds for other policies they should be expecting from government, most especially, possibility off curvew and possibility of lock-up,” he said.

Mr Ademola Babalola, the Oyo State Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists(NUJ), said commended the state government for embarking on the sensitization campaign, which he said would go a long way in curtailing the spread of the virus.

“You remember few days ago as journalists, we were apprehensive of government’s preparedness to tackle this pandemic.

” But, what we have seen in the last few days, government has shown enough capacity that it is capable of putting this thing back to where it came from,” he said.

Babalola said that the state government was doing its best to make the people aware of the pandemic and how to tackle it.

Alhaji Dauda Oladapo, the Babalola of Oyo State and Alhaja Isiwat Amerigun, the Iyaloja of Ibadanland in their separate interview commended the state government for embarking on the campaign to markets.

The duo said that the effort would go a long way in curtailing the spread of the virus and prepare their members for whatever policies evolved by government.

Earlier, Omo Ajorosun Club of Ibadan presented packs of herbal blend hand sanitizers to the state government to support the ongoing campaign against the spread of COVID-19 in the state.

The hand sanitizers presented by the club’s president, Alhaji Ismaila Bioku were received by Dr Bashir Bello, the State Commissioner for Health at the state secretariat.

The campaign team featured distribution several protective materials such as face mask, hand gloves, hand sanitizers, water buckets and hand washing basins.

NAN also reports that the state government also unveiled two standby ambulances for the Emergency Operation Centre(EOC).

Among those on the campaign team are Mr Taiwo Adisa, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor and Mr Jide Ajani, the Special Adviser to the governor on Media and members of NUJ COVID-19 Committee.(NAN)
