In the Ikorodu Local Government Area of Lagos State, a day-old baby girl has been left by the side of the road next to a church.
According to reports, a local neighbour who was heading to a nearby store around 630 a.m. overheard the newborn girl wailing hopelessly by the road after she had been left by the wayside.
The resident approached the sobbing child and saw that she was dressed in long-sleeved baby clothing, a cap, and a flannel blanket.
When the resident discovered the infant, she was shocked and called the police to alert others in the vicinity to the situation. But when no one came forward to claim the child, she began to think that the mother had abandoned the child at the scene.
The baby was being treated at the Ikorodu General Hospital, according to SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the state police public relations officer, who was contacted and confirmed the event to our correspondent.
