It was a memorable event and a day of tributes as Staff from Bursary and Store/Purchasing Departments, the Management, Union Leaders, Chairman Committee of Deans and others took their turn to shower encomium on the past three Bursars that meritoriously served at the Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology, Igboora.
The send forth programme organised by the Bursary and Store/Purchasing Department on Thursday, August 24, 2023 was held in honour of the Pioneer Bursar, Alhaji Haadi Babatunde Ashiyanbi, his successor, Mr. Jacob Olusegun Olaewe and the immediate Past Bursar, Dr. Sarafa Adewumi Agbogun.
The colourful event had in attendance all the Management Committee and other distinguished personalities namely; the Rector, Prof, Akinola Akinlabi, the Deputy Rector, Dr. Taiwo Akinyemi, Registrar, Mr. Rasheed Fasasi Adenrele Adeniji, Director of Works & Services, Engr. Dauda Salaam, Acting Bursar, Mr. Modupe Ogundapo, Director of Audit, Mr. Kolawole Atanda, Secretary to the Management, Mr. Olajire Gbadamosi, Chairman Committee of Deans, Dr. Oladapo Ojo, Director of SIWES, Dr. Muyiwa Sodiq, SSANIP Chairman, Engr. Sunday Oyediran, the representative of Non-Academic Staff Union, Com. Kunle Oladele, Seven Deputy Bursars, Deputy Director of Audit, Mrs Comfort Adegbite, Director of Venture, Mr. Alli Ismail, Chief Accountants, Head of Store, Mrs. Olapegba, all Staff of Bursary and Store/Purchasing Departments. Others were the Chief Imam of Lanlate Alhaji Daud Akorede, the Chief Tesfir of Lanlate, Alhaji Isiaq Alimi, the Chief Preacher, Mr Abdul Kadir Abdul Sallam, Alhaja Khadijat Omowumi Agbogun, Mr S. A. Salawu and Mr. R. A. Kauzeem from the Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo, Mrs Oni Oluwatoyin among others.
The Rector, Prof. Akinola Akinlabi in his remarks lauded the Bursary and Store/Purchasing Department for their initiative, while commending the past Bursars for raising gallant Deputy Bursars and Accountant who are piloting the affairs of Bursary department.
Prof. Akinlabi described them as worthy leaders who have put their footprints on the sands of time, while calling on others to emulate their virtues.
In his welcome address, the Acting Bursar, Mr. Modupe Ogundapo, expressed his delight at welcoming the former Bursars who have impacted him and his Colleagues during their days in the College.
According to him, “we are honoured to have you back in our midst after the completion of your tenures or retirement from the services of the Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology, Igboora, therefore, on behalf of the Governing Council, the Management, Board of Studies, Staff and Students, I welcome you back.
“Although, this send forth was long delayed but we believe it is coming at the appointed time because it is better late than never. I
t is in this spirit of love we share that we are gathered here today to celebrate, honour and have an enjoyable session with the former Bursars of the Institution.
“Indeed, the trio of Mr. Haadi Babatunde Asiyanbi, Mr. Jacob Olusegun Olaewe and Dr. Sarafa Adewumi Agbogun deserve greater honour, recognition and special commendations going by their huge records of performance in the College during their tenures.
But in our little way, we are saying we are indeed proud of your contributions to the growth, advancement and development recorded in the Bursary Department, Store/ Purchasing Unit and in the College at large in your respective capacities and positions. The legacies you have left behind are indelible and shall remain memorable forever.
“If we decided to dedicate this programme to tributes, encomiums and eulogies alone, I am sure a lot of staff members who have enjoyed your mentoring would have a lot of good testimonies to make about your commitments to duty, honesty, sense of value and objectivity. This is a good lesson for others to emulate.
“I need to also emphasise that there is no gift or prize that we can present that will commensurate with the services you have rendered. You are remembered today, and your memories will linger on forever in our minds.
“I would not end this address without unreservedly note of appreciation to the Management for their unflinching support towards the success of this programme.”
Mr Ogundapo prayed God to grant the past Bursars long life and sound health in order to eat the fruits of their labour.
The Deputy Rector, Dr. Taiwo Adekemi, who hinted that she was a Staff while the three Bursars served in the institution, extolled the distinguishing qualities of the former Bursars as worthy of emulation.
The Deputy Rector also commended Dr. Agbogun for his support towards the accreditation of Accountancy programme of the Institution by Institutes of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and donations received from the ICAN.
The Deputy Bursars, Mrs. Sekinat Adejuwon, Mr Joshua Taiwo, Mr.Abel Oladeji, Mrs Bola Oyewumi and others testified of the commitment of the Past Bursars to the computerisation of Bursary Department, regular training of their Staff, motivation to pursue further studies, linkage with opportunities in the accounting profession, unwavering and team spiritedness in repositioning the department.
In his remarks, the Registrar, Mr. Rasheed Fasasi Adenrele Adeniji expressed surprised at the various positive comments about the past Bursars. He appealed that others should emulate such outstanding qualities.
The pioneer Bursar, Alhaji Ashiyanbi who was represented by his wife, Mrs Ashiyanbi appreciated the Bursary and Store/Purchasing for the initiative as she stressed the need for them to remain united in order to maintain the good legacies left by the past Bursars.
Also responding, Mr. Olusegun Olaewe, represented by his wife applauded the organisers of the send forth programme for celebrating their past leaders. She commended them for their love and dedication to duty, while charging them not to relent. She attested that her husband is a moulder not only in the office but at home too.
The immediate Past Bursar, Dr. Sarafa Agbogun appreciated the Bursary and Store/Purchasing Department for their support while serving at the institution.
He admonished the accountants not to relent in their annual subscription to their professional bodies as he expressed hope that the accountants who have passed through the rigorous training under the Bursary Department will continue to shine in the State and beyond.

PROFILE OF PIONEER
BURSAR, Mr HAADI BABATUNDE ASIYANBI
Mr Haadi Babatunde attended Isokun Baptist Primary School, Oyo and Anglican Secondary Modern School, Oyo, for his primary school and modern school education respectfully before he gained admission to the prestigious Olivet Baptist High School, Oyo and later Ogbomoso Grammar School, Ogbomoso for his General Certificate of Education ‘O’ level and ‘A’ level, respectively from 1977 to 1984.
His University education was at the University of Lagos, Lagos State where he was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting.
He pursued his education further by attending University of Ilorin, Kwara State for his Post graduate studies and graduated with master’s degree in Business Administration.
In his quest for additional knowledge, he equally proceeded to Crescent University, Abeokuta, Ogun State where he was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in Banking & Finance in 2015 and a Master’s degree in Banking & Finance in 2018.
Mr. Asiyanbi qualified as a Chartered Accountant of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria in 2002.
He also belong to other recognized professional bodies such as Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered), Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria among others.
He became a fellow Chartered Accountants (FCA) of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria in 2014 and he has attended many local and international conferences and seminars.
Mr. Asiyanbi began his professional career in 1985 as an Executive Officer Account at the Bursary Department of Saint Andrew’s College (Now Emmanuel Alayande College of Education, Oyo).
He also worked as a pioneer accountant at both Trans Wonderland and Boff & Company Insurance Brokers between 1989-1992 and 1992-1993 respectively. He later joined the services of the Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo in 1993 as an Accountant I.
Through hard work and dedication to duty, he rose to the position of Senior Accountant in 1997, Principal Accountant in 2000, Assistant Chief Accountant in 2003 and lastly Chief Accountant in 2006.
While serving as a professional Accountant in the College, he has worked in several units within the Bursary department such as: Pension and Gratuity Unit, Wages and Salary Unit, Treasury Unit, Expenditure Control Unit, General Ledgers and Final and it was on record that he was appointed and served as Head of Bursary at the Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo.
In the year 2007, he was appointed by the Oyo State Government as the Bursar of the newly established College, Oyo State College of Agriculture, Igboora (OYSCAI).
As the pioneer Bursar, he solidly laid the foundation of Bursary Department and contributed tremendously together with other pioneer management staff members in building the College’s project during his tenure.
With due reference to his moral values, professional prowess and extraordinary courage displayed by Mr Asiyanbi during his tenure, the words of Martin Luther King became evident that “the ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands at the moment of comfort and convenience but where he stands at the moment of challenge and controversy”.
He is a man of honour and integrity who always fights against injustice.
Mr. Asiyanbi, who is known for his unique style of professional leadership, was again appointed as the Bursar of the Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo in 2015 and he is currently serving his 2nd term tenure till date.
Mr. Asiyanbi has had his fair share of political experience by being appointed as the chairman of Oyo West Local Government of Oyo State from 10th of June, 2002 to 3rd of June, 2003.
During his tenure as the Local Government Chairman, he executed various developmental projects that contributed to the growth of the Council and well-being of his people.
Mr. Ashiyanbi is presently pursuing his PhD programme.
MR OLAEWE JACOB OLUSEGUN
Mr. Olaewe is a native of Idere, born at Tapa, Oyo State 56 years ago. He started his educational career from his home town, Idere where he obtained General Certificate of Education in the year 1985.
He proceeded to the Polytechnic, Ibadan between 1985 and 1987 to acquire National Diploma in Accountancy.
He furthered his educational career in the same Polytechnic between the year 1988 and 1990 where he bagged his Higher National Diploma in Accountancy.
His versatility and prospect of rising to the peak of his career, led him to his administrative programme in the Prestigious University of Ibadan where he obtained Masters in Business Administration (MBA) in the year 1990
Very determined to explore the depth of the accounting profession, Mr. Olaewe expanded his background knowledge in accounting in the Lead City University between 2010 and 2012 and obtained BSc Accounting.
Mr Olaewe has also successfully developed his professional career in accounting as he qualified as an Associate Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ACA) in the year 1994.
After several years of experience as a Professional Accountant, the Institute found him eligible for the Fellowship Status. He was therefore conferred as a Fellow Chartered Accountant (FCA) in the year 2012.
His remarkable contributions to the development and publication of accounting and financial reporting standards also earned him a status as Registered Professional, Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria, 2015.
The employment history of Mr Olaewe dates back to 1987 as an industrial attachee with Wemobid Estate Limited, Lagos.
He was later employed as an Accountant in broadcasting corporation of Oyo State (BCOS) between 1992 and1994. Between the year 1994 and 2000, he worked as Cost and Management Accountant for West African Batteries Limited, Iwo Road, Ibadan.
He was later engaged with the Federal College of Education (Special ) in the year 2000 as a Senior Accountant, and headed Salary and Wages Unit until 2003.
He rose to the position of Assistant Chief Accountant and also doubled as Head of the Financial Account Unit from 2006-2009.
Mr Olaewe promoted to the position of Chief Accountant and was posted to head the Accounts Units of the Directorate of Pre-NCE, Part-time and Sandwich Programme (DIPPSAP) from 2009 to 2010.
He became the Chief Accountant in the Federal College of Education (Special) in the year 2009 and still as Head of Accounts, Directorate of Pre-NCE, Part-time and sandwich programme (DIPPSAP) where he was fully entrusted with the finance and accounting function of the Unit. He was thereafter promoted as Deputy Bursar.
Having considered his profile and accomplishments, the Oyo State Government found him competent to manage the finances of one of the State owned Institutions and he was appointed the Bursar of Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology on 17th July, 2014.
While serving as a professional accountant he was able to organize the Bursary Department and Purchaseing/Store Unit for efficient and effective financial service delivery.
He initiated the computerization of the units of the Bursary Department for efficient operation. As a member of the Management, he gave useful financial advice that led to some giant strides in history of the College.
Mr Olaewe demonstrated a purposeful leadership by helping the staff to set ambitious goals and accomplish them consistently.
Just like a saying that “ a gold fish cannot be hidden” the pleasant experience with Mr Olaewe was short lived when in the year 2016, the Federal College of Education Okene appointed him as bursar.
Mr Olaewe, full of innovation, creativity, and selflessness service, was favoured to serve at various capacities including as Chairman, Committee of Internally Generated Revenue of Federal College of Education, Okene 2017 to 2020.
Mr. Olaewe is the current Vice-Chairman, Committee of Bursars, Federal Colleges of Education in Nigeria. Mr Olaewe Jacob Olusegun FCA is the current Bursar, Federal College of Education, Okene, Kogi State.
He is happily married with godly children.
DR AGBOGUN SARAFADEEN ADEWUMI
Dr Agbogun was born in the year 1958. He attended Oke-ogun Baptist Modern/Commercial School and Baptist Grammar School, Eruwa between 1972 and 1981.
After his preliminary educations in Eruwa, he left for the Polytechnic Ibadan between 1982 and 1988 and obtained National Diploma and Higher National Diploma in Banking and Finance respectively.
He proceeded to Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye, Ogun State and was awarded Masters in Business Administration in the year 1998.
His determination to make his marks in the world of accountants, compelled him to obtain Higher National Diploma in Accountancy from Federal Polytechnic, Ede, Osun State after which he advanced to Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye, Ogun State between 2007 and 2010 for his first degree in Accounting.
Shortly after then, he progressed to Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife Osun State, and obtained Master of Science (MSc) degree in Accounting in 2016.
Dr. Agbogun passionately delved into rigorous academic works and research, and in the year 2020, he bagged Philosophy Doctor (Ph.D) in Accounting from the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State.
His working career started from the private sector as a clerical officer at Teacher Training College Eruwa 1977 and later as a Secondary school teacher at Lanlate High School 1981 and 1982.
He served as Account Assistant with Daily Need Industries Ltd. Isolo, Lagos between 1984 and1986, and became the Accountant in Pan Africa Manufacturing Company Ltd 1989-1996. He worked as Senior Accountant at the United Nigeria Textile Company 1996-1998.
He was Audit Manager with Olaniyi Olagoke & co a firm of Chartered Accountants in 1996-1998.
He thereafter moved to Oni Oil Industry Ltd, Lagos State where he worked as an Accountant between 1998 and 1999.
After his accomplishments in the private sector, he joined Lautech Teaching Hospital Ogbomoso as Assistant Director of Audit for three years.
He rose through the ranks and became Deputy Director, Internal Audit in the year 2017.
Dr. Agbogun was appointed the Bursar of Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology Igboora in the year 2017.
While working as the Bursar in Oyo State College of Agriculture Igboora, he made great impact as a Management Committee member. He contributed massively to the development witnessed both in infrastructure and networking within and outside the College. He also inspired many of his subordinates in the field of Accounting, Auditing, Forensic and Management.
He was also a great source of encouragement to the academic pursuit of his staff thereby seeing many of his subordinate exploiting their academic potentials.
Dr. Agbogun is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (FCA); Fellow of Chartered Institute of Taxations of Nigeria (FCITN); Fellow, Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered). Member of Chartered Institute of Certified Forensic Accountant/Investigator of Nigeria (ACCrFA).
Dr. Agbogun is proudly in partnership with private practices including Adewumi Agbogun & Co Chartered Accountants, Agbogun Sarafa Akanji & Co Tax Practioners, Agbogun Forensics Accountants and Investigators.
He is also a Lead Consultant, Palm-Maas Consult as well as Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of Double Palm Hotels and Ogunronke farms.
At point in his history, he was a part time lecturer in Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso (Ibadan Study Centre) 2004- 2010. Lecturer, Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, (Osogbo Study Centre) 2001-2007.
In his community development services, he has served as Secretary Osun State Scout Council for 8 years, Osun State Scout commissioner for 3 years, National treasurer of Scout Association of Nigeria in 1977, and was the President of Oyo State Scout Council in the 2007.
Dr. Agbogun is currently retired from active service with effect from 2022. But not tired yet, he is currently a Lecturer in River State University. Dr Agbogun is happily married with godly children.
