Do you know that the late strongman of Ibadan politics and PDP chieftain, Chief Lamidi Ariyibi Adedibu, the present Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji Ogunguliso 1 and late Fuji maestro, Alhaji Sikiru Ayinde Barrister are from same family compound in Ibadan.
The family compound is Olupoyi family house in Oja-Oba in Ibadan. The family compound is also known as Akajewole compound which is shortened to Akaje.
Many lovers of the late Fuji maestro’s music will notice the late musician calling himself Omo Akaje (Akaje descendant) in his music.
Also, the late politician, Adedibu also hailed from this compound and he was the head of the family compound before his demise in 2008. However, Adedibu mother’s root is from Iba Oluyole family compound which is opposite his father’s family compound, Olupoyi.
The interesting thing about the late politician is that he adopted his surname from his maternal uncle who was the 10th family head (Mogaji) of Iba Oluyole’s compound. The real name of his father is, Adegoke Adeduntan but dropped Adeduntan to adopt Adedibu.
The present Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Adetunji is also from the same compound. It was gathered that late Adedibu and present Olubadan were good blood brothers who were in the same social club name, ‘Ilupeju’ and the incumbent Olubadan is the only surviving member of the social club.
It was gathered that it was Adedibu that gave the Olubadan the opportunity to become Mogaji of the compound which made him joined the race to attained the Olubadan stool.
