EFCC Arrests Prominent Businesswoman Aisha Achimugu Over Alleged Contract Fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested high-profile businesswoman and socialite, Aisha Achimugu, over allegations of fraudulent practices linked to a multi-million-naira contract awarded to her company by a state government in South-West Nigeria.

Achimugu, the Chairman of Bluewave Exploration and Production Limited, was taken into custody last weekend following a petition submitted by a civil society group. The petition alleged irregularities and questionable dealings related to the contract.

She was released on bail a day after her arrest but has been instructed to return for further questioning. Sources indicate that the EFCC has scheduled her next appearance for March 30, 2025, as investigations continue.

Achimugu is widely recognized within Nigeria’s elite circles, particularly in Lagos and Abuja, where she is known for her opulent lifestyle. Her social media platforms often display images of luxury getaways, yacht gatherings, and travel via private jets.

The arrest has cast a spotlight on both her business interests and her public persona, raising questions about the impact the ongoing investigation could have on her career and reputation.

Despite the scrutiny, Achimugu has maintained a calm public demeanor. Shortly after her release, she launched a 30-day Ramadan feeding program aimed at supporting underprivileged communities during the holy month.

Further developments are expected as the EFCC deepens its probe into the case.
