The Federal Road Safety Corps(FRSC) in Osun State has deployed over 1500 personnel, 28 patrol vehicles, ambulances and towing vehicles for traffic monitoring, enforcement and swift emergency response during 2025 ember months, and particularly during Christmas and new year festive period.
FRSC Sector Commander in Osun State, Corps Commander ‘Leye Adegboyega, fsi, stated this at a news conference heralding the command’s Ember months public enlightenment and sensitisation campaigns on Monday in Osogbo, Osun State.

Adegboyega said that the theme of the campaign “Take Responsibility for your Safety, Stop Distracted Driving”, aimed to boost road users’ understanding of the consequences of their actions, so as to be better equipped to make responsible and safety-conscious decisions.
He noted that both Regular and Special Marshals, across the 13 Commands in the State, would be strategically positioned along major routes for effective operations.
According to him, Four ambulances will be stationed at critical points to ensure swift rescue operations within 10 minutes of reported crashes.
“A heavy-duty tow truck will also be placed on standby for prompt removal of broken-down or crashed vehicles along major routes such as Ilesa–Ife–Gbongan, Osogbo–Sekona–Gbongan, and Osogbo–Ikirun–Offa corridors.
“Furthermore, the Command will collaborate closely with private tow truck operators to complement its rescue and obstruction removal operations.

“To enhance traffic flow and monitoring, personnel will be deployed to 42 identified critical traffic locations across the State. These include Aregbe Junction, LAMECO Junction, Okefia Roundabout, Old Garage and Stadium Roundabout in Osogbo.
“Others include Oke-Gada and Akoda-Ede junctions in Ede; Owode, Sekona and Igbona markets; Mayfair, Lagere and Akinlalu junctions in Ife; Iwaraja and Iloko junctions in Ilesa; Alamisi Junction in Ikirun; Odo-Ori Junction in Iwo and the Naira and Kobo area in Ikire.
“In furtherance of prompt rescue and emergency intervention, the Command will activate Help Areas at Redeemer’s University/Akoda Junction (Osogbo–Gbongan highway), Iwaraja Junction (Ilesa–Akure expressway), Alamisi Junction (Ikirun), Wakajaye (Gbongan–Ife highway) and Naira and Kobo Junction (Ikire). These will serve as quick-response bases during emergencies.
“The Command Clinics in Osogbo, Ilesa and Ipetu-Ijesa will be equipped for 24-hour operations to stabilize crash victims before referral to hospitals for further treatment. Additionally, standby night rescue teams will operate in all Commands to ensure round-the-clock emergency response during the Ember Months, “he said.
Adegboyega said that the Command would strengthen synergy with sister security agencies through information sharing and joint patrols, and also engage the Federal Ministry of Works for palliative repairs of identified bad road sections to reduce gridlocks and crashes.
He called on transport unions, fleet operators and the general motoring public to partner with the Corps in sustaining a culture of safety, discipline and responsibility on the roads throughout the season.
“Drivers must avoid speeding, overloading and night journeys; ensure vehicle roadworthiness and refrain from distractions such as mobile phone use while driving. Road safety begins with individual discipline.
“Safety is a collective duty. Every driver, passenger and pedestrian must play their part in reducing Road Traffic Crashes.,”he said.
Earlier, the FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, in his statement reiterated that the theme of 2025 ember months campaign reinforced the view that human factor is one of the major causes of road crashes.
He added that the theme also drew attention to the fact that drivers are largely responsible for crashes on the highways. He noted that the crash statistics of the “2024 Operation Zero”, carried out between December 15, 2024 to January 15, 2025 revealed that 432 persons were killed; 2,070 persons were injured out of 533 reported cases of road crashes.
According to him, the records also showed that the major causes of those crashes were driver fatigue, overloading of persons, conveyance of persons in haulage vehicles and traveling with fuel in plastic containers.
“Apparently, this shows that drivers’ behaviour is a fundamental element in determining safety on our highways. Therefore, the choice of the 2025 End-of-Year campaign theme was deliberate and well thought-out.
“It was carefully chosen to address road traffic infringements by drivers which were largely responsible for the previous road crash records.
“In line with our commitment to achieve the desired outcome of the 2025 end of year campaign, the Federal Road Safety Corps has mapped out the many actionable measures for hitch-free motoring during and after the Christmas and new year festive season, “he said.
