The Enugu State Youth Agenda (EYA), has been proven to be a veritable
platform for youths of the state to air their minds about political
affairs of the state.
It is behind this backdrop that youths all over the states in the
federation gathered on this platform to assess political situation and
bring about way forward especially choosing befitting candidates that
can stir the ship of the state to a rightful destination.
The Oyo state chapter of the youth forum penultimate week gathered in
Ibadan, Oyo state capital ratify on who will become the next lawmaker
representing Igboeze NorthUdenu Federal Constituency as they singled
out one man, Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, the lawmaker presently
representing the federal constituency.
The youths who eight months ago, broke party barriers and came under
one umbrella chooses candidates irrespective of political parties they
belong and their agenda to support whoever has political credibility
to engender good governance.
The Agenda, led by Comrade Temple Chinedu Chika, maintained that
Ugwuanyi represents the teeming youth population in the state just as
he stands for a passionate course to place Enugu State atop the league
of states in Nigeria.
While launching at the penultimate week, the Oyo State chapter of the
Agenda at the D’Rovans Hotel, Ibadan, and Comrade Chika while
inaugurating the Oyo State executives led by Engr. Chuka Alumona, said
that the essence of rallying Enugu youths in diaspora is to make them
part of that one voice and ensure that they play a role for the
development of their home state.
Before the inauguration too, the youths in Oyo had met and agreed to
lend their voice to the state’s affairs as it concerned who governed
it as from May 29 next year.
The coordinator, Alumona, said:
“This body is a non-partisan body but whenever we want to go for a
candidate we assess with all our minds towards pushing that person
forward irrespective of the party. This time around we have agreed to
push Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of the PDP forward because he is the right
person that we know can move the ship of Enugu state forward. Hence,
we are openly adopting him.
In taking the decision to adopt Ugwuanyi, how is the party going to
cope with dissenting voices?
The Director-General, Chika answers:
“In the agenda we have members of PDP, APC, APGA and several other
parties but they were all part of the decision. I can not tell you
that there are no dissenting voices initially but we were able to
harmonise. And they understood and saw the reason why we should take
that bold step”.
According to him, the Enugu State Youth Agenda has now come to stay
and the youths of the state have been urged to take up the gauntlet
and help the state move forward.
