A call has gone to members of Association of Private Practising Surveyors of Nigeria (APPSN) in Oyo State to imbibe discipline, ethical standard and developmental reforms to return the State back to its place of pride as the former seat of the South west region of the country.
The call was made on Tuesday at a 2-Day Retreat organized by APPSN Oyo State for its members at Iseyin, Iseyin local government of Oyo State.
The guest speaker of the day, Surveyor (Hon.) Iretioluwa Sotayo fnis said members of APPSN in Oyo State should take cognizance of major reform approaches that the Ogun State branch took up and worked for them.
Surveyor (Hon.) Iretioluwa Sotayo is the Vice Chairman, Abeokuta South Local Government, in Ogun State.
In his presentation with the theme: “Raising The Bar of Private Practice of Surveying in Oyo State: A Collective Effort,” analyzed the need to embrace the Continuous Operation Reference Station (CORS), online issuance to residents and non-residents Surveyors as well as rationalization of pillar numbers issuance to reduce cost, safe lives of practitioners and cut out fraud.
“To bring back the pride of Oyo State in the area of Surveying practice, we must be firm with our ethical standard, discipline and institute technology in the area of imbibing online practice in areas like Continuous Operation Reference Station (CORS), electronic record copies, rationalization of pillar number issuance and others.
“Commencement of online issuance to all resident and non-resident Surveyors in Ogun State has recorded so much success that by next year, record copies will be submitted online in Ogun State.
“This will not just safe lives, cut costs and cut out fraud in the process of accessing surveying documents and other vital materials which they used to travel far and near to get but can now be accessed within seconds online.”
Sotayo also harped on the need for inspection of surveying offices, monitoring of pupil surveyors to avoid their proxy training.
He called for good relationship between APPSN Oyo State and relevant State Ministries, as well as need for political influence to make reforms successful.
In his speech, the National Chairman APPSN, Surveyor Thomas Dabiri, who was represented by the National Bice Chairman, Surveyor Ademola Oguntade said the retreat was timely as the surveying practice has reached a crossroad, which called for strong reforms.
He added that discussions at the retreat would be frank and at the end of the gathering on Wednesday, outcomes of the deliberations would henceforth be the bedrock of the professional practice in the State.
Present at the event was the Oyo State Chairman of the Nigeria Institution of Surveyors (NIS), Surveyor Waheed Lamidi mnis and the Honorable representing Iseyin and Itesiwaju State Constituency at the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Dele Adeola and the former Surveyor-General of Oyo State, Surveyor Olufemi Akintola.
Honorary awards were presented to the National Chairman of APPSN, Surveyor Thomas Dabiri fnis, the Guest Speaker, Surveyor Iretioluwa Sotayo fnis among others.
