The political calculations and permutations on the next Governor of Akwa Ibom State is getting more interesting, as stories of endorsements of a preferred successor to Governor Udom Emmanuel keep flying around.
Reliable and dependable sources close to the Akwa Ibom State Government House in Uyo have confirmed to our reporter today, that the current Commissioner for Economic Development and Ibom Deep Seaport, Akan Okon may soon be unveiled as the preferred successor to Governor Udom Emmanuel.
According to the source, “Akan Okon is one of the closest allies of the Governor and both have come a long away. Unknown to many people, Akan Okon and the Governor have been friends for decades. They were classmates at the then School of Arts and Science and then attended the University of Lagos together.
“Most importantly, both are financial service experts and the Governor as a highly successful banker helped the career growth of Akan Okon as a banker as well.
“It was the Governor, who as the Secretary to the Stare Government (SSG) in 2013, facilitated the appointment of Akan Okon as the Commissioner for Finance, thus making him one of the longest serving Commissioners in the history of the State.”
When asked about other endorsements already made public, the source said “the purported meeting where a certain individual was said to have been endorsed as the flag-bearer of the PDP was a ruse.
“I can authoritatively confirm to you that the meeting where the individual was said to have been endorsed did not take place. The real meeting where Akan Okon was selected as the preferred candidate took place a week earlier.”
