The Senior Special Adviser to governor Kayode Fayemi on Public Buildings and Infrastructures, Architect Wale Ajayi has sought greater synergy between the leadership of the various Alumni Associations and the Students Union bodies, in order to halt the growing destructive tendencies during students unrest.
The governor’s aide stressed that this became imperative in the wake of violent protests being witnessed in some universities in recent time with its attendant losses .
Speaking shortly after he was honoured by the Ekiti State Chapter of the Federal University of Technology ,Akure (FUTA) Alumni Association Ajayi ,who is one of the pillars of the body disclosed that the alumni must bridge the seeming communication gap between the students bodies and the university managements which often leads to students unrest .
“Since we are all products of the various institutions we understand the situation clearly, as it relates to students welfare .And we are also constantly in touch with the managements and the students unions ,I think we should be able to create platforms for resolving whatever issues the students might have before they go to the streets .
“It is very sad nowadays, hearing reports of students protest leading to deaths and destruction of both private and public properties ” Ajayi lamented.
At the colourful ceremony held at the popular MIDAS Hotel, Ado- Ekiti ,the Rector Federal Pokyrechnic ,Ado-Ekiti ,Dr Dapo Oladebeye the second runners up in the last governorship primaries of the All Progressives Congress(APC) in Ekiti ,Engineer Kayode Ojo were also celebrated.
The ceremony also featured the installation of patrons among them were,Professor Deji Fssuyi ,and Dr Oluyode Atunramu.
The high point of the occasion was the formal inauguration of the state’s Executive Council members of the Alumni led by its pioneer chairman ,Comrade Samuel Omoniyi Ojo .
In his inaugural speech Comrade Ojo appreciated the supports of the members of the association to the successful hosting of the event.
He admonished successful alumni to support their alma mater in the area of Infrastructural development and projecting good Image of the institution.
The crown President of FUTA ALUMNI Worldwide Olaitan Adesomoju who described the programme as the best in recent time used the occasion to highlight some achievements of the association towards supporting the institution.
He listed the donation of two units of boreholes,to the university farm and renovation of Block C which had suffered I infrastructural neglects among others .
Adesomoju urged spirited alumni members to donate generously to the association in order to turn around the decaying infrastructures in the university .
