A late-night fire outbreak has razed four shops at the popular Saki Garage in Ibadan North Local Government Area of Oyo State, destroying goods and properties valued at millions of naira.
The inferno, which erupted when business activities had closed for the day, affected four out of eleven shops located within the garage. No lives were lost in the incident.
Confirming the development, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Fire Reform and Chairman, Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Hon. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande, said the fire was reported by a passerby.
“The fire incident was reported by a running caller, Mr. Lateef, from Amotekun Bodija Division, who informed us of shops on fire at the above address. Our personnel, led by ACFS Adedeji (Mrs), responded swiftly and were deployed to the scene,” he stated.
Akinwande explained that firefighters promptly curtailed the spread of the flames and prevented the disaster from extending to surrounding shops and residential buildings.
“No casualty was recorded. The remote cause of the fire was traced to lighted embers left unattended after the close of business, which ignited nearby combustibles and set the place ablaze. Four shops were affected, but properties worth millions of naira were also saved by the officers of the Agency,” he added.
He urged the public to always prioritize fire safety, keep emergency numbers within reach, and install fire extinguishers in homes and business premises to mitigate future risks.
