From Kehinde Adewole
The Ekiti State Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), has saluted Out-going Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) for having performed creditably well durig his five-year tenure in office, as the erudite scholar bows out of office come February 11.
Prof. Soremekun who assumed duty as VC, FUOYE in 2016, will hand over the mantle of leadership of the University to his successor, Prof. Sunday Abayomi Fasina on February 11 after the historic launching of 74 infrastructural projects which his administration bequeathed to FUOYE on February 10.
According to a statement on Monday, February 8, from the office of the Ekiti NUJ, Chairman, Comrade Rotimi Ojomoyela, signed by his S.A Media, Wole Balogun, the state NUJ Council commended the out-going Prof. Soremekun for his outstanding performance as VC, FUOYE, for five years, adding that the success stories being relayed from several quarters and particularly the FUOYE community, are pointers to the fact that the erudite scholar and tested administrator has performed creditably well in office.
Speaking further, Comrade Ojomoyela said: “For our friend, father and senior colleague in the print Media industry in Nigeria, Prof. Kayode Soremekun, his successful tenure as VC marks a remarkable phase of his life. From what we have been reporting about his tenure as FUOYE VC, Prof. Soremekun has performed creditably well and the facts about this assertion are visible for even the blind to feel. FUOYE now has many success stories to tell about infrastructural projects dotting the landscape of the twin premises of Oye and Ikole campuses of the University, the rapid growth in number of both staff and students of the institution since 2016 as well as the rapid growth in the number of faculties and academic programmes.
” For the records, we are aware that FUOYE now boasts of over 24,000 students from about 6000 in 2016 when Prof. Soremekun assumed duty. We are also aware that Soremekun’s administration has increased the number of accredited programmes to 75 and faculties to 11 from about 30 programmes in five faculties in 2016 when he came on board.
“Another cheery news is the fact that the Soremekun led Administration has bequeathed not less than 74 infrastructural projects for a conducive learning and teaching environment in the institution.
The team of Soremekun’s administration which achieved the foregoing admirable achievements included the current VC designate, Prof. Fasina, as then Deputy VC, Administration, current Deputy VC, Academics, Prof. Olusola Ojo, current Registrar, Mr. Olatubosun Odunsanya, then Director of Administration (D.A) and current Bursar, Mrs. Bolatito Akande, who then served as Acting Bursar for the most part of Soremekun’s administration as well as other principal officers of the institution including Directors, Deans of faculties, HODs and the entire staff and students (who jointly contributed to the success which Soremekun administration has become today).
” As you exit gloriously from the service to humanity and your fatherland as VC, FUOYE, the entire members of the NUJ, Ekiti State Council, wish you the best in life, sound health, long life and prosperity and greater fortunes in future endeavours.
“While we wish Prof. Soremekun a healthy and prosperous life after service, we wish VC designate Prof. Fasina a more successful, impactful, progressive and fruitful tenure as you mount the saddle of leadership to pilot the affairs of the prestigious University for the next five years from February 11, 2021.
” We also wish to advise Prof. Fasina to ensure that his administration caters for all parties as he has promised in his Acceptance Speech, for by doing this, he will be laying a solid foundation for a more prosperous and progressive FUOYE.
” Prof. Fasina is also advised to welcome criticism from any quarter as an challenge to perform better. He should ignore sychopants, and destructive criticisms but embrace constructive criticisms and work across board to give FUOYE the best we know he is capable of giving as an erudite scholar and promising administrator.
” Prof. Fasina should also endeavour that his administration remains approachable and assessible to members of the NUJ in Ekiti State, as they would have to reach him and his colleagues from time to time as issues and events unfold and need the attention of his administration as well as the reportage by our members. “
