From Kehinde Adewole
Excited Executive members of the Student Union Government (SUG), Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), on Tuesday hailed the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina for prompt attention he gave to the welfare and well-being of the students, which was demonstrated with the purchase and hand over of the keys of a brand new Sienna vehicle for the Union.
According to a press statement made available on Tuesday to newsmen in Ado-Ekiti by the VC’s Special Adviser on Media, Wole Balogun, in fulfillment of a part of his promises, in his February 11 inauguaral speech, that his administration shall accord adequate and prompt attention to the welfare of staff and students of the Ivory Tower, Prof. Fasina on Monday, handed keys of a brand new vehicle to the SUG’s President, Mr. Alabi Johnson, a final year student of FUOYE’s Department of Mechanical Engineering and his team of Executive members at the premises of the Oye Campus of FUOYE amidst applause by students and staff members who witnessed the historic event.
The development had come on the heels of the VC’s prompt fulfilment of his other plegde, which is the provision of a subsidized Transport system for the students and staff members, on March 1. A 56 seater bus was promptly provided by the institution’s Transport Committee and has since been providing adequate transport for members of staff who reside in Ado-Ekiti and other areas, at a subsidized rate.
While handing over the keys of the vehicle on Monday, Prof. Fasina urged the SUG to make good use of the vehicle so that it could last much longer and provide the necessary support for the Union.
The VC also promised to promptly attend to other needs of the students and further urged them to be more studious and ensure that peace is sustained on the Campus.
Responding, Johnson expressed a heart-felt gratitude to the VC and his Management team, saying : “lt has been a huge challenge for the SUG as we have been having issues with mobility since we were inuagurated as new SUG excos of FUOYE.
“The challenge with mobility has been slowing down the pace of our various important activities and engagement for the teeming students. Now that our amiable VC, our kind and generous father, Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina, has solved this problem for us. We, on behalf of the entire students appreciate him for the timely and kind gesture. With this positive development, I believe great achievements would be made for my students.
This indeed, is a laudable gesture, as we appreciate the effort of the Vice- Chancellor. We look forward for more things for the interest of a better FUOYE,” he assured.
