…your becoming VC is Ekiti dream fulfilled -Ekiti Deputy gov
From Kehinde Adewole
Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina, has assured the Ekiti State governor, Dr. John Kayode Fayemi that his administration will collaborate with him to ensure that there is food security in the state within the shortest period of time.
This was just as the Deputy governor, Prince Bisi Egbeyemi said the emergence of Prof. Fasina as the VC, FUOYE, is dream fulfilled for Ekiti State.
A statement by the SA media to the VC, Wole Balogun, made available to newsmen on Thursday said the duo of Prince Egbeyemi and Prof. Fasina made the remarks while the latter paid the former a Courtesy visit at his office. Prof. Fasina and his Management team, were warmly received by the Deputy governor’s team which included top government functionaries and his Media aide, Odunayo Ogunmola under a strict Covid 19 protocol.
While addressing the Deputy governor, Prof. Fasina said: “We are here to appreciate you for your support to the Federal University Oye-Ekiti. Your government has given us a road, some social amenities and even given one of us a chance to serve in your government and the person is performing well. We want to seek for your continued support for us I know you very well as we have worked together for many years. I was a part of the College in Isan-Ekiti and today it is there and I am very happy.
“We are seeking for total support and whatever you want us to do we will do. I am just a call away and whenever you call me I will respond earnestly.”
Also speaking with newsmen at the event, the VC said: “We are here to seek collaboration with the state government, especially in the area of ensuring food security for Ekiti State. I am an Agriculturist and l will do everything within my capacity as the VC and an Agriculturist to ensure that Ekiti has food security. In this light, we are seeking the support of the state government to assist us by providing more social infrastructures such as good roads, hostel accommodation and others. Our dear governor has done that before and we urge him to do more for us.
“I have been a friend to both the state govenor, Dr. John Kayode Fayemi and his amiable Deputy governor, our father, Barrister Bisi Egbeyemi for a very long time and we have worked together on many projects which are for the benefit of Ekiti State. I assure you that l will use my office as the VC, FUOYE to collaborate with the Ekiti State government to ensure that more development is brought to our dear state in no time.”
Responding, the Deputy governor who received the VC and his team on behalf of the state governor, said: “We wanted our dear son, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina to be the VC of FUOYE and God has helped us to make him to be there. He married my daughter. His wife is not a distant relation but we are same royal family. Prof. Fasina has been very wonderful in the way he works and that is why his elevation to the postion of the VC was possible. Everyone who spoke to us about him, give very positive assessment of his character, they would say he is charitable, sincere, cheering and charismatic among others.
” We are equally lucky to have some sound people in that University. The former VC, Prof. Kayode Soremekun was at a time badly painted but we found out that such impression wasn’t correct, ” he said.
Giving an elderly advice to the University Management team, he said: “Wherever you are, be loyal to your boss. l will never be disloyal to my boss, the governor of Ekiti State. And I must ensure that I remain loyal totally to him. If we don’t work together, it will be difficult.
“The Bursar is very powerful in any institution, if she wants to help she will teach you how to do it. The Lord will guide all of you. I am particularly happy that our son, Prof. Fasina won the coveted seat. There were others that came to us from the varsity and we told them that though, they are qualified, but due process has to be followed and it was due process that produced our son. So, whatever you are doing , be honest and follow due process. This will see you through all difficulties.
” You have collaborated with the former VC, that is why he did well and I am sure yours will be greater than his. You should do certain things that people will remember you in life for. Wherever you are and you make an impact, people will remember you and I pray your subordinates will not be your enemies. As we say in Ekiti, if there are thousands against you, they will all vanish. You yourself, should be pure. I appreciate you my sisters and brothers for coming here with the VC, and wish you the best.”
While giving the Vote of Thanks to conclude the event, Registrar of the school, Mr. Olatubosun, said: “It will not be fair not to use this great opportunity to appreciate and recognize those who have supported the school. His Excellency, Dr. John Kayode Fayemi and yourself sir, we appreciate you so much. You always listen to us and have been very patient and very impartial. On behalf of the VC and the entire varsity, we appreciate you for honouring us . We have heard your elderly and candid advice. Each of us have one or two things to take home today which include, don’t be disloyal and make sure you put in your best. We assure you that we will remain indivisible sir. Thank you.”
