Family members of the prestigious Olugbesan family in Ibadan from all walks of life on Thursday converged on the Olugbesan Compound, Agbeni, Ibadan to celebrate this year’s Ileya festival with one of their illustrious son and former deputy governor of Oyo state, Alhaji Hazeem Gbolarumi .
The occasion, which also featured the turbanning of the the new Olugbesan family head, Alfa Dauda Olayiwola as well as the family’s Chief Imam by a renowned Ibadan Islamic cleric in Amunigun, Ibadan, Alfa Bamidele fondly called “Baba Amunigun” was well attended by the family members as well as well-wishers.
The Islamic cleric, Alfa Bamidele in his sermon enjoined muslims to always show appreciation for what Allah has endowed them with and use it to better the lots of the poor and downtrodden within and outside their communities.
“If you utilize what Allah has given you for the benefit of mankind, He will surely add more to you and you will never lack , but anyone who refuses to do this , that which has been given to him will be taken away” he said.
He described the former deputy governor, Alhaji Hazeem Gbolarumi as a generous muslim who has been continually using his position and wealth for the benefit of not just his compound family members but the community at large.
In his remarks, the former deputy governor of Oyo state, Alhaji Hazeem Gbolarumi admonished the new family head, Alfa Dauda Olayiwola to imbibe the virtues of tolerance, patience and eschew unwarranted anger in his dealings with members of the household.
Alhaji Gbolarumi pointed out that the success of any leader is hinged on patience and tolerance praying that Allah will grant him wisdom, strength and temperance to live up to the demand of the office.
He recalled how patience and tolerance paved way for him to become the Secretary of the then Ibadan Municipal Government when he was at that point in his life, ambitious of becoming a councilor only to drop the desire when he was prevailed upon by the late strongman of Ibadan polititics, Chief Lamidi Ariyibi Adedibu.
According to him, his patience paid off as he was made the Secretary to all the local government areas of Ibadanland with bigger benefits of office when compared to that of a Councillor.
