Former deputy governor of Oyo State and People’s Democratic party Chieftain, His Excellency Alhaji Hazeem Gbolarumi has congratulated Amb Taofeek Arapaja, on his success to emerge as South West People’s Democratic party Chairman.
This is contained in a statement released by Gbolarumi’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Olaniyi Stephen, to journalists on Tuesday 13th April, 2021 in Ibadan.
Arapaja, the candidate contesting for the soul of the Chairman of South West Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) polled 343 votes to defeat his rival, Dr Eddy Olafedo who scored 330 votes.
Gbolarumi described Arapaja’s victory at the polls as well deserved considering his experience in the past many years in Politics.
He said, “I extend my warm felicitations to you on your well deserved victory in the just concluded South West People’s Democratic party Zonal Congress taken place on Monday 12th of April, at Osogbo in Osun State.
Gbolarumi commended the well-articulated campaign programme of Amb Taofeek Arapaja in the Zone, the doggedness of his Campaign team in going round the South West to reach the people with records of Amb Arapaja over the years and a promise of repositioned.
According to him, the outcome of the election clearly reflected the mood of the people to sustain the pedigree of responsiveness, forthrightness and diligence that Amb Arapaja brought into the service of his people.
“The victory is good for democracy, for Nigeria and the people of South West,” Gbolarumi said.
“With the decision to vote Amb Taofeek Arapaja who is equally people-friendly, reliable, trustworthy, and has the fear of God, the people have made the right choice and I can only urge them to continue to support him to deliver on the campaign promises.
He, however, urged Amb Taofeek Arapaja to see his victory as a clarion call to do more for South West People’s Democratic party who had reposed their confidence in him.
Gbolarumi who expressed his delight that Amb Taofeek Arapaja had now brought the entire South West zone under the PDP family, urged him to be magnanimous in victory.
He also commende the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the security agencies for their neutrality in the election.
“Having won a hard-fought election, I encourage you to be magnanimous in victory by extending an olive branch to your opponents on the other side,” he added
