The South-West Zone General Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Ramon Owokoniran, has said that the members of his party in the zone, are aggrieved that the Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, campaigned for opposition presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Chief Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, during the February 25, 2023 presidential election.
While he was speaking with Punch correspondent on the development, Ramon said, “The governor made the party believe that he was not against Atiku Abubakar until the last minute, as he refused to declare support for Atiku. We are not happy with Makinde, he deceived us to believing he was supporting Atiku. He made us believe that he was not against our candidate but, he was actually against him.”
Further talking, he said what eventually played out was that, the people of Oyo State, were not happy and he was not just talking about the party members but non-party members also and that, even the anger, was expressed more by people outside the PDP, who believed that the decision should not have taken him that far.
Ramon also said that what transpired in the last presidential election, will definitely impact the governorship and state House of Assembly elections, but, he doesn’t think it should be enough for them not to deliver the state to Seyi Makinde, as he claimed that Seyi Makinde will win the forthcoming gubernatorial election in the state.
