An hoodlum who was seen in a viral video extorting money from motorists with his other gang members has been arrested.
The hoodlum whose name was not mentioned was among the 520 suspects who were arrested in connection with the cases of arson, vandalism, burgling and robbing of unsuspecting members of the public of their valuables during the unrest occasioned by the #EndSARS protest in the state.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu made this known on Tuesday during a press briefing at the command headquarters in the Ikeja area of the state.
According to PUNCH’s report, Odumosu maintained that the #EndSARS protest was hijacked by hoodlums, adding that the arrested suspects would be charged.
In the viral video, the hoodlum with his gang members were spotted extorting money from motorists. They were seen wearing police uniform in an undisclosed area in Lagos.
Recalled that hoodlums had hijacked peaceful protests by genuine youths across the country who were clamouring to end operation of police unit in the country called Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
During the period that the hoodlums hijacked the protest, there were reported cases of the unscrupulous youths burning and killing policemen and also burning their stations. It was also gathered that the hoodlums looted police uniforms and their firearms.
These uniforms were seen by these thugs using in this video to extorts money from members of the public.
It is therefore evident in this video that uniforms and rifles are in wrong hands now. Everyone should be security conscious now as a result of security situation in the country.
