Housemaid Arraigned for Allegedly Attempting to Poison Employer’s Children with Antiseptic in Lagos

A 20-year-old housemaid, Glory Edem Solomon, has been arrested and arraigned before the Ogba Magistrate Court in Lagos for allegedly attempting to poison her employer’s children by putting Savlon antiseptic in their drinking water.

The incident occurred on July 3, 2025, at No. 4b Abba Johnson Crescent, Ikeja, Lagos, where the suspect lived and worked for Mrs. Bola Diya and her family.

According to the police, Solomon was employed as a domestic worker and had been living with the family. Although the motive behind the alleged act was not disclosed, authorities reported that she was caught in the act and handed over to the police at the MAN Center Division, where she was detained and interrogated.

Following investigations, Solomon was charged to court for attempted felony. The charge reads:
“That you, GLORY EDEM SOLOMON, on 3rd July 2025, at about 06:22hrs, at No. 4b Abba Johnson Crescent, Ikeja, in the Ikeja Magisterial District, did attempt to commit felony by adding Savlon antiseptic into a water bottle intended for drinking by the children of your employer, Biola Diya ‘f’, and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 406 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.”

During her arraignment, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge. The prosecutor, Supol Phillip Ademigbuji, urged the court to set a date for hearing to enable the police present evidence of the alleged offence.

Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. Kusanu, granted the defendant bail with two sureties. The sureties are required to show proof of gainful employment, tax payments, and their addresses are to be verified by the court.

The case was adjourned for mention, and Solomon was remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre pending the fulfillment of her bail conditions.
