Chinedu Onwudebe, husband of Chinasa Odeka—the woman featured in a viral sex tape—has spoken out for the first time, sharing his side of the story in what he describes as a painful saga of betrayal, abuse, and humiliation over the course of their 24-year marriage.
In an emotional interview, the 59-year-old from Ogboji, Anambra State, revealed that his wife introduced the man in the video, identified as Ichie Obiora, to him as her cousin. Trusting her, he accepted Obiora into their home and treated him like family.
“I didn’t know all her cousins, so I had no reason to doubt her,” Onwudebe said. “Obiora even bought phones for our children and promised to buy me a bus.”
But things took a dark turn. In 2020, Onwudebe claimed he returned home one day to find Obiora in their bedroom. Despite his suspicions, his wife insisted on maintaining contact with the man, leading to growing tensions and eventually, physical confrontations.
The situation exploded into public view when a sex tape allegedly featuring Chinasa and Obiora surfaced online. The video, reportedly leaked by one of Chinasa’s daughters, sparked outrage within their community. A group of women, known locally as Umunada, attempted to stage a protest against Chinasa but were stopped by village elders.
Chinasa, for her part, defended her actions, accusing her husband of years of neglect and abuse. She claimed Onwudebe beat her so severely at times that she had to be hospitalized—and it was Obiora, she said, who came to her rescue.
While Onwudebe admitted to beating his wife, he insisted it was in response to her repeated infidelities. “I married her because she was hardworking and beautiful,” he said. “But her lifestyle destroyed our family.”
He recounted a violent altercation during a visit to an apartment he claims Obiora rented for Chinasa. “I went there to retrieve my motorcycle. She came out half-naked, pushed me off it, and bit my hip. Obiora punched me and knocked out one of my teeth. My daughter even hit me with a weapon. I passed out.”
Onwudebe also alleged that Chinasa had manipulated police against him over the years, getting him arrested multiple times based on false accusations. “But once I explained my side, they saw through her lies. In one case, she was even detained instead,” he claimed.
One of the most painful consequences, Onwudebe said, was being cut off from his only son for more than two years. “They told me they didn’t know where he was, only to later admit he had been sent away to learn a trade—without my knowledge or consent.”
Asked why he never retaliated against Obiora, Onwudebe cited fear. According to him, Chinasa warned that Obiora was a dangerous vigilante operative with access to charms and the ability to “disappear and reappear at will.”
“She said he could frame or kill me if I ever challenged him,” he said.
Reflecting on the entire ordeal, Onwudebe expressed regret and sorrow. “I stayed, hoping she’d change. I didn’t want to believe she was unfaithful—until that video proved otherwise.”
He denied having any role in leaking the sex tape, stating it was one of his daughters who first sent it to him and later shared it with someone else, who allegedly uploaded it to social media.
“I’ve lost my wife, my son, and my peace of mind,” Onwudebe said. “All because I trusted the wrong people.”
