The senatorial candidate of the Accord for Oyo South senatorial district, Mr. Kolapo Kola-Daisi has stated that one of the major ways he intends to empower youths is by equipping them with the ability and mindset to become problem solvers.
He stated this while talking as the keynote speaker at the Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic, Eruwa, on the theme: Advanced Information Technology (IT) and its impact on the Nigerian Economy, Business, Marketing, Education and Commerce.
“Technology has positively disrupted our way of life. From the way we do business to the way we make payments, the disruptions to the ways we learn and take up knowledge; information technology has taken a driver’s seat”, Kola-Daisi said.
He added, “Technology is now at the forefront of driving Nigeria’s economy, a situation which has led to the emergence of even more numerous start-ups, a revitalization of the financial sector, a surge in e-commerce, a revitalization of the creative sector, and the creation of many young technopreneur millionaires”
“It is expected that the sector would help lift more than 100million Nigerians out of poverty in the next 10 years. It has created approximately 5million jobs over the past 10 years”.
“It is my earnest hope to see more youths partake in this revolution. I am committed towards providing support to young people in my domain to have everything needed to become problem solvers. This is the kind of empowerment I intend to bring, our youths deserve that much and my doors are open”, Kola-Daisi submitted.
Mr. Kolapo Kola-Daisi urged the government to increase the frequency of focus on ICT as a major driver for the country’s economy, especially as it already contributes a majority to the country’s non-oil revenue.
He announced a scholarship to the best students of the Faculty of Engineering, his hosts for the day.
