I Won’t Delay Filling Vacant Positions in Olubadan Chieftaincy Line — Ladoja

Former governor of Oyo State and the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, has assured that there will be no delay in filling vacant positions in the Olubadan traditional chieftaincy line following the passing of the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin.

Speaking with journalists on his return to Ibadan, Ladoja confirmed he was out of town when the revered monarch passed on, stating, “I was not in Ibadan when the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, joined his ancestors, on Monday, July 7, 2025.”

He paid glowing tributes to the late royal father, describing him as a peaceful and respected leader who left a mark in the history of Ibadanland. “Kabiyesi Olakulehin lived an impactful life. He was a symbol of unity and stability in our traditional institution,” Ladoja said.

On the next steps in the chieftaincy structure, Ladoja, who is next in line to ascend the Olubadan throne, reiterated his commitment to upholding tradition without undue delay. “There will be no unnecessary delay in the promotion and filling of vacant positions in the chieftaincy line. The system must continue to function seamlessly.”

He stressed the importance of continuity in the Olubadan system, which is renowned for its orderly and hierarchical structure, saying it remains a model of traditional succession across Nigeria.

The burial of the late Oba Olakulehin has been scheduled for Thursday, August 8, 2025, with dignitaries from across the country expected to attend.
