Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, has announced that the state government will upgrade the Ibadan Airport to an international standard within 18 months.
Speaking on Wednesday at the Hijrah 1446 luncheon organized by the state government, Governor Makinde stated that the state has the resources to drive the project and will constitute a committee to oversee the upgrade before the end of the week.
“Before the end of this week, I will make an announcement on the committee that will champion the upgrade of the Ibadan Airport. I am more than confident now that before my tenure ends, those going for Hajj operation would take off from Ibadan to Mecca and Medina,” the governor said.
Makinde assured that the project will be completed within 18 months, as the state has the necessary funds to make it happen. He called on the people of Oyo State to support the government’s efforts, stressing that the administration will continue to prioritize the interests of the people and the development of the state.
The governor also used the occasion to commend the chairman of the Pilgrims Welfare Board (Muslim Wing), Sheik Hashim Olamide Ateere, on the smooth 2024 Hajj operations, noting that it was a remarkable achievement.
In their separate goodwill messages, various dignitaries, including former deputy governors, the Chief Judge of Oyo State, and the President of the Oyo State Customary Court of Appeal, emphasized the need for the declaration of Hijrah holiday in the country.
The event was attended by top government officials, Islamic scholars, and other prominent members of the Oyo State community.
