The Federal Character Commissioner from Oyo State, Professor Adeniyi Olowofela, has expressed his condolences to the governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, and other prominent individuals in the state over the recent explosion in Ibadan.
In a statement, Olowofela sympathized with the victims and wished those injured a quick recovery. He also commended the swift response of the state government and emergency agencies in addressing the situation and providing assistance to affected communities.
As a native of Ibadan and the Federal Character Commissioner, Olowofela emphasized the need for unity and cooperation in the face of such tragedies. He urged the people of Oyo State to come together and support the government in its efforts to rebuild and rehabilitate the affected areas.
Olowofela also stressed the importance of conducting a comprehensive investigation into the cause of the explosion to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
Olowofela further advised the government, organizations, and concerned individuals on how to prevent future environmental hazards resulting from the explosion. From a geophysical perspective, he explained that the shaking experienced in certain areas of Ibadan was a result of induced seismicity, where rock fractures occurred. Olowofela suggested that the University of Ibadan should establish a seismic station to monitor such activities. He also recommended including representatives from the Geological Department and the Department of Physics at the university in the committee investigating the causes of the explosion.
Olowofela therefore expressed his hope that such a tragic event would not happen again in Oyo State and urged everyone to pray for the prevention of such incidents in the future.
