Residents of Igbede, in Ojo Local government area of Lagos state has called on the governor of Lagos state, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to come to their aid. The residents lamented that the dilapidated nature of the road have crippled economic activities in the area.
Speaking on their predicament, one of the residents, Barrister Amos Dickson Ejedegba, lampooned the neglect of the state government towards the road.
He stressed that irrespective of the money the state generates from Alaba International Market, which is under Ojo Local government area, yet the area is like a forgotten zone.
He said: “I have been here since 2007, I have never seen the impact of the government in this community. As you can see the state of the road is horrible and this has hindered development. This road have a major linking to Alaba. If rehabilitated, it will end the traffic usually experienced at Ajangbadi.
I don’t know why the government kept blind when you have one Honourable member, Akande, who happens to be a House of Assembly member. During election, you will see them coming in to seek for the vote of the masses, after that, they will take off. There was a time I called Honourable Olusegun Victor Akande, and asked him what he was doing about the road, he said he would get back to me. I was even in his office long time ago. But he stopped picking my calls”.
Also speaking, Engineer Adewale Shittu, said that he has been in the community since 1992, but it seems that government have forgotten the area.
He said, “Sometimes you will see people with video and camera everywhere snapping the road. You would believe that they are doing something serious. Before you know it they will disappear”.
“We are appealing to Lagos state government to visit communities in Ojo Local government area and see what we are suffering”.
