The plight of Rose Rebecca Oluwaseunfunmi, a Nigerian woman currently residing in Iraq, has taken a dangerous turn, Sahara Reporters reports.
The woman reportedly faces a death sentence by the Iraqi government, scheduled for November, unless immediate action is taken by the Nigerian government.
According to Sahara Reporters’ findings, Oluwaseunfunmi left for Iraq on May 6, 2023, in pursuit of better opportunities, only to become disillusioned in the Middle Eastern country.
The trouble arose when, overwhelmed with despair, Oluwaseunfunmi attempted to end her life. Despite being rescued, the authorities in Iraq found her guilty of a crime and sentenced her to a fatal beating due to her suicide attempt.
Her journey to Iraq was motivated by the desire for a more promising life, given the lack of opportunities in Nigeria.
The source implored the Nigerian government, led by President Bola Tinubu, to urgently intervene and rescue Oluwaseunfunmi from her precarious situation in Iraq.
