Al-Ansor Trust Fund (ATF), an Islamic Group, says it targeted over 200 hernia and glaucoma patients for free surgical operations in Ibadan.
The ATF Coordinator in Oyo State, Dr Ridwan Salam made this known while declaring opening the 8th annual free medical and surgical outreach of the group on Friday at the Muslim Hospital, Mosfala, Ibadan.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the programme which started on Friday would end on Sunday, featuring other treatments like cervical cancer screening, Dental consultation and treatment, Eye examination and treatment.
Salam said that the free medical and surgical outreach was an annual event of the organisation aimed at catering for the medical needs of the less privileged irrespective of religion,age and sex.
He said that one of the major focus of the programme was in the area of surgery because many people could not cater for challenges of surgical operations as a result of financial constraints.
“We are catering for surgeries for glaucoma and any form of hernias in the body of both children and adults.
“We also target over 100 patients for cervical screening and over 400 patients for eye examination and dental care,” Salam said.
The Coordinator said that it was the wish of the NGO to venture into eye surgery but could not do that currently as a result of financial challenges.
He called on the wealthy people in the society to assist the NGO in order for more people to be a beneficiary of the medical outreach.
Speaking to newsmen one of patients slated for hernia surgery, Mr Rafiu Yusuf, appreciated the NGO for the gesture. (NAN)
